School Policies
LOCKERS AND SAFEGUARDING PROPERTY - Lockers should be kept locked and the lock combinations confidential. THE SCHOOL CAN ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR LOSSES. DO NOT share YOUR COMBINATION with anyone other than your assigned locker partner. Therefore, students are advised to label possessions and refrain from bringing to school:
1. More money than actually needed
2. Radios, tape recorders, valuable jewelry, etc.
3. Substances which may be illegal or dangerous to the health and safety of others.
Lockers are the property of Canyon Springs High School and are subject to inspection by authorized school personnel. Students who have mechanical difficulty with the lock should ask a custodian for assistance  or report it to the Attendance Office.

Each student and parent must sign a locker contract. If items of the contract are violated by the student, locker privileges will be revoked. Contents of the locker are to be taken home on the weekend and holidays.
To be assigned a locker, the contract must be returned to the Attendance Office.

LIBRARY -  Students must have a current school I.D. and not have any overdue books or fines in order to check out library books. A total of five books can be checked out on your library card and the checkout period is for three weeks.
Textbooks are checked out through the library. A current school I.D. and a class schedule are required for textbook checkouts.
There is absolutely NO FOOD or DRINK allowed in the library. The computers may be used if a student has a current I.D. and password. Classes have priority on the computers. A copy machine is available to the students at 10¢ a copy.
GUESTS ON CAMPUS - Guests are not allowed on campus. Students who have friends or relatives visiting because they are on vacation while CSHS is in session may not have these visitors attend classes or be on campus. District liability regulations strictly forbid visitors on campus.

COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY - Graduation from high school is a very special occasion for students and their families. The administration and staff want to provide a dignified commencement ceremony where the community and school can recognize and honor the accomplishments of the graduating class. All guests must remain in the stands during the entire commencement ceremony, and all photographs must be taken from the stands.
Participation in this formal commencement ceremony is NOT required, and those students who choose not to be involved can receive their diploma the day after graduation in the Counseling/Guidance Center. Any disruptive behavior either before or during the ceremony will cause the involved student(s) to be excluded from the ceremony.
No senior will be permitted to participate in the ceremony who is not satisfactorily dressed according to the District adopted dress code, has not attended rehearsal, who smells of alcohol, or who appears to be under the influence of a controlled substance.
Nothing is to be carried in the hands while marching except programs. Purses and other personal possessions should be left with family or friends prior to lining up for the ceremony.
Seniors who participate in the commencement process must wear the regulation cap and gown. Displays other than flowers (boutonnieres and/or corsages) on cap and gown will not be allowed.
At the completion of the commencement ceremony, seniors and parents only are allowed to pick up diplomas for students.  The time and location will be announced.

WORK PERMITS FOR EMPLOYMENT - Students who are under 18 years of age and plan to work must obtain a work permit from the Work Experience Coordinator. This is a state law. These are issued by the school and should be secured at the time employment is offered or prior to vacation periods.
A normal schedule permits only four hours of work on any school day and eight hours on Saturday. The total must not exceed twenty-eight (28) hours a week.
Students officially enrolled in Work Experience may acquire a work permit allowing them to work up to six hours each day.
Since part-time work depletes a student’s energy, we issue permits for additional work only in those cases where the student submits evidence of the following: an actual job, financial need, parents’ approval, and satisfactory citizenship standing.
All permits expire at the end of the summer and must be renewed in September of each school year. There is a separate permit for summer employment.
Students desiring employment should check the with the Work Experience Coordinator.
